Fees Policy

Last updated: July 7, 2026

1. Overview

This Fees Policy describes the fees that apply when you send or receive money through TipMe, and how failed payments, chargebacks, and disputes are handled. It is part of, and should be read together with, our Terms & Conditions. If this policy and the Terms & Conditions conflict, the Terms & Conditions control.

All amounts on TipMe are in U.S. dollars (USD). All payment processing is performed by our payment processor, Stripe.

2. Fees for Customers (Payers)

When you send a tip or pay for a service, a single flat processing fee (customer surcharge) is added to the amount you choose. The fee is the same regardless of payment method — currently approximately 4.1% of the tip or service amount + $0.31. The exact fee and the total you will be charged are always displayed before you confirm a payment; you are never charged more than the total shown at checkout.

The fee covers the payment-processing costs charged by our payment processor (Stripe) plus TipMe's platform commission. The breakdown depends on how the payment is made:

  • Online payments (QR-code payment page): payment-processing costs are currently 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction; TipMe's platform commission is 1.1% of the tip or service amount (+ $0.00).
  • Tap to Pay (in person, TipMe mobile app only): payment-processing costs are currently 2.7% + $0.05 per transaction plus a $0.10 Tap to Pay authorization fee; TipMe's platform commission is approximately 1.3% + $0.25 before the authorization fee (approximately 1.3% + $0.15 after it).

3. Fees for Recipients

Recipients currently receive the full tip or service amount — the customer surcharge covers processing costs and TipMe's commission, so nothing is deducted from the amount a customer chooses to send you.

TipMe charges no signup, monthly, subscription, or account-maintenance fees. Creating an account, generating QR codes and payment links, and receiving payments are free.

4. Payout Fees and Minimums

Standard payouts (bank transfer): Free. Funds typically arrive within 1–3 business days after the payout is initiated.

Instant payouts (eligible debit card): A fee of 1% of the payout amount, with a $0.50 minimum, is deducted from the payout. Funds typically arrive within minutes.

Minimum payout: The minimum payout amount is $10.00. New accounts and certain transactions may be subject to holds and settlement review as described in the Terms & Conditions.

5. In-Person Payments (Tap to Pay)

Recipients can accept in-person contactless payments (cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and other digital wallets) using Tap to Pay. Tap to Pay is available only in the TipMe mobile app for iPhone and Android — it is not available on the web version of TipMe.

In-person payments use the same fee model as online payments: the customer pays the tip or service amount plus the same processing surcharge that would apply online (see Section 2), the exact total is displayed before the customer taps, and the Recipient receives the full tip or service amount. There is no additional Recipient fee for using Tap to Pay.

Our payment processor charges a lower base rate for in-person (card-present) transactions — currently 2.7% + $0.05 per transaction, versus 2.9% + $0.30 online — plus a $0.10 Tap to Pay authorization fee on every Tap to Pay transaction, including declined or unsuccessful attempts. These processor fees are paid by TipMe out of the customer surcharge; they are never charged separately to the customer or deducted from the Recipient's amount. Because the surcharge is calculated the same way for both channels, the remaining difference is retained by TipMe as part of its platform commission (approximately 1.3% + $0.15 per successful Tap to Pay transaction — see Section 2).

6. Failed, Declined, or Delayed Payments

A payment can fail or be declined for reasons outside TipMe's control — for example, a card issuer decline, insufficient funds, incorrect payment details, network or bank outages, or fraud-prevention checks by the payment processor. No fee is charged for a failed or declined payment, and failed payments are not retried without a new authorization.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TipMe is not responsible or liable for losses arising from a payment or payout that fails, is declined, or is delayed by a card issuer, bank, payment network, or payment processor, or because of inaccurate information provided by a Payer or Recipient. If a payment fails, the Payer's card is not charged (or the charge is automatically reversed by the processor), and the corresponding amount is not credited to the Recipient. This section is subject to the disclaimers and limitation of liability in Section 15 of the Terms & Conditions.

7. Chargebacks and Disputes

If a Payer disputes a charge with their card issuer or bank (a chargeback), the dispute is handled through Stripe's formal dispute process. Card networks charge a dispute fee (currently $15 per dispute) regardless of the outcome.

Because TipMe is the merchant of record, a chargeback and its associated fees are initially charged against TipMe. As described in Section 10 of the Terms & Conditions, TipMe may recover the disputed amount and associated fees from the responsible Recipient, including by reversing or withholding transfers, debiting the Recipient's balance, or offsetting against future payouts.

Payers should first contact the Recipient or support@tipme-app.com to resolve a problem — most issues are resolved faster this way than through a formal dispute. Abusing the chargeback process (for example, disputing a tip or service you authorized and received) violates the Terms & Conditions.

8. Taxes

Fees under this policy do not include taxes. Recipients are solely responsible for any taxes on amounts received through TipMe, as described in Section 11 of the Terms & Conditions.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Fees Policy from time to time. Fee increases will be announced at least 30 days in advance to account holders. The current version is always available on this page, and the "Last updated" date reflects the most recent change.
